Optimmune is a sterile eye ointment that help treat KCS or dry eyes in dogs. This medication requires a prescription from your veterinarian.
Dogs (no age or weight requirement)
Serious side effects are not to be expected with this medication. However if any side effects of the eyes occur, it may be one of the listed below.
If these side effects occur, continue the medication but talk to your veterinarian if they persist.
Optimmune Ophthalmic Ointment
Cyclosporine
Let your veterinarian know if your pet has any type of eye infection(s). Also inform your veterinarian if your pet is pregnant or lactating.
They should be given as per the directions of your veterinarian. Make sure to wash your hands prior to using the ointment and keep the medicine stored at room temperature.
Give the missed dose as soon as possible. If it is close to the time of the next dose, just give it then, but do not do a double dose. Follow as scheduled.
It is unlikely to overdose on this medication, but if that were to occur, wash the eye(s) with water and get emergency veterinarian treatment.
Make sure that the tube opening does not come into contact with any surfaces such as eyes or hands. The medication can cause blurred vision. Also avoid using any other eye medication unless otherwise instructed to by the veterinarian.
Before using Optimmune on your pet, make sure to inform your veterinarian if your pet is using any other eye ointment or medication. Make sure to talk to the veterinarian or pharmacist before giving any prescription medicine to your pet.
